Kettle Kickoff

The Salvation Army’s 2008 Kettle Kickoff will be held all day Nov. 20 at the new Eagan East Cub Foods, 1020 Diffley Rd., located at the southeast corner of Diffley Rd. and Lexington Ave. S.

Beginning at 6 a.m. KOOL 108 will broadcast live from the event, which will feature volunteer opportunities, free refreshments and a live and on-air auction of Minnesota Wild collectibles autographed by players Mikko Koivu and James Sheppard. FOX 9's Meteorlogist Ian Leonard will broadcast live at 5pm and KARE 11 will provide live web-streaming throughout the day.

The event will also feature a 10 a.m. ceremony  to announce the Christmas fundraising goal. Soon after, Salvation Army officers will gather red kettles and distribute them to Cub Foods’ 57 Twin Cities locations. Cub will provide up to $10,000 in matching funds for donations made to these kettles on Nov. 20.

40 HOURS OF SERVICE
The Kettle Kickoff will be held in conjunction with “40 Hours of Service,” a celebration to honor Cub Foods’ 40th anniversary that will include $40,000 in groceries for families in need.

40 Hours of Service runs Nov. 20 – 21 at the Eagan East Cub Foods. For each hour of bell ringing registered during the 40 Hours, a $30 bag of groceries will be donated to the Salvation Army’s six food shelves.

Up to 1,300 of the grocery bags are available, a $40,000 value sponsored by Cargill, CHS, Land O’ Lakes and General Mills. The amount of groceries provided will be determined by the number of hours people register to bell ring online or by calling 651-746-3519.

Food Shelf

Thursday’s Kettle Kickoff will also feature a special tent where the public can write personalized holiday cards to families in need. These cards will be placed into each bag of groceries.

During Kettle Kickoff and 40 Hours of Service, there will be “40 Hours of Prayer” at The Salvation Army’s eight metro Worship and Service Centers and Harbor Light Shelter.
