Walk to End Hunger
Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce could add an inch or two to your waistline this Thanksgiving. Don’t let it happen. Preempt those extra pounds on Thanksgiving morning by participating in the Walk to End Hunger at Mall of America (watch video).

The Walk to End Hunger, presented by the Greater Twin Cities United Way, is a 5K trek around the mall with live music, entertainment and fun activities. It begins at
7 a.m. at the Mall of America® Rotunda.

The Walk is an important event because it raises funds to feed Minnesota families. In 2008, for the first time, Minnesotans made over 2 million visits to food shelves.

Many of those visits were made to Twin Cities Salvation Army food shelves, which last year served more than 65,000 people. We also served a full 760,000 hot meals.

Food Shelf
All Walk proceeds will be divided between The Salvation Army and other local food providers. A minimum of $100 must be donated, raised or collected by a walker to receive a free Walk T-shirt.

Walkers also have the option to donate to a specific hunger organization.

“If you choose to walk, please consider designating your donation to The Salvation Army,” said Major Jeff Strickler, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “Use of our food shelves has increased nearly 50 percent from three years ago. We need help.”
