Quotes from bell ringers:
"I consider it an honor and a privilege to ring bells for the Salvation Army! I get to meet the nicest people from all walks of life. It's a great opportunity to interact with the public. I'm usually a bit of an introvert but I "morf" at the kettle. You truly do get out of the experience what you're willing to put into it.
It's hard to explain to others what a joy it is to be out there. Some pity us because we have to stand there out in the cold. I was probably of that mindset prior to volunteering. I really don't remember anymore. Yes, most shifts I'm frozen to the bone but there is a gentle peacefulness that takes over knowing what noble work has been done. I feel so fortunate to have the time and opportunity to join in each season.
Thanks for all you do and you will find me at a kettle for many years to come." -

"I was ringing the bells for The Salvation Army in a supermarket. I ring with gusto - perhaps too much gusto. The bell broke off. It flew towards a donor. Fortunately, it hit no one, but it left me holding a handle of bell. A handle tends toward the quiet side.
The bell was beyond repair without the use of tools. What could I do? I shook the handle and made the motion as though I was ringing the bell. As I did so, I said: 'Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.' We make do."
"It was so nice when we got to Lund's to find not only the perfect number of bells but a nice note thanking us for ringing. It was a little cold but we were dressed pretty well and just needed to move our feet every now and then to keep them warm. We found most people to be very friendly and generous. The kids counted how many people put money in the kettle and we had 40 people in a little over 2 hours. (When we got to 37 by 5:00 we decided to ring until we had 40 donors.) We had a great time and hope the donations were a blessing to SA."
"For over 25 Years this Holiday Event has been among our Lions Club most favorite. Most feel that their Holiday just isn't complete unless they've done some Bell Ringing at the Red Kettles."
"I've enjoyed being a Bell Ringer and
supporting the Salvation Army! Had nice "Thank Yous" from several
people, some of whom were recipients of the Salvation Army help. God
Bless You - Merry Christmas!"
