USED VEHICLE DONATIONS

Donating a used vehicle helps the Salvation Army in its work to heal broken lives and help men on the road to recovery. The program also helps those in need to purchase used cars of their own. Having a car makes it easier for single moms and out-of-work dads to find jobs, to shop where their money goes farther and to take kids to and from school activities.

What vehicles qualify?
To qualify for the maximum tax deduction, the vehicle must be operable. Cars, trucks, campers, boats and motorcycles are accepted for donation.

If a car is not operable, it will be accepted for salvage and you are entitled to a $500 tax deduction.

How do I donate?
Call 612-332-5855 to set-up a drop-off time. You will be advised of the items (car title and key sets) you will need to bring when you drop off the vehicle. The drop-off location is the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center at 900 N. 4th St. in the Minneapolis warehouse district.

How do I get my tax deduction?
If your vehicle is operable, it will be auctioned at the monthly Salvation Army online auction. It typically results in a much higher sale price for vehicles compared to sales at conventional car auctions. The price it sells for at auction will determine the amount of your tax deduction, according to new IRS rules. The Salvation Army will mail you the information for your tax records within 30 days of the sale.

If your vehicle is not operable, the Salvation Army will make arrangements to pick up the vehicle and you will receive the information for your tax records within 30 days.
