Vikings Players Hold Pep Rally at
Harbor Light Shelter
Minnesota Vikings players and defensive line coach Karl Dunbar held a pep rally Nov. 9 at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Shelter in downtown Minneapolis.
The Vikings encouraged a standing-room-only crowd of about 100 less fortunate men and women to word hard and reap the rewards of being reliable, punctual and having a good attitude.
To help these residents move toward self-sufficiency, The Salvation Army hires some of them as paid bell ringers.
Harbor Light manages more than 100 of the 400 kettle sites in the Twin Cities. Its Christmas goal of $805,000 is the highest of any Salvation Army service center in the country.
“We operate the largest program by far, and with a skeleton staff,” said Harbor Light administrator Envoy Bill Miller. “Trying to raise such a high goal takes a lot of great staff. …The fact that we know the homeless and the downcast makes it easier to have loyal people who want to work.”
