Bye-Bye Sleeping Mats, Hello Beds
Community support is needed to get the homeless off of sleeping mats and into comfortable beds.
For years, up to 130 homeless men a night have been sleeping on the ground at The Salvation Army Harbor Shelter in Minneapolis.
“It’s an efficient model, but doesn’t provide much dignity,” said Steve Horsfield, Harbor Light chief operating officer. The solution: bunk beds. Lots and lots of comfy, nearly indestructible bunk beds. (read more)
Volunteers Shine During Flood Fight
Whew. That was close.
Despite the Red River cresting at 38.75 feet in early April – its fourth-highest level in recorded history – damage was minimal. The Salvation Army and its volunteers were proud to serve all of the community volunteers and disaster crews who fought this historic battle. (read more)
