“Stuff the School Bus” 2008 Yields Bigger Contributions

In the three “Stuff the School Bus” events that The Salvation Army and KS95 have held since 2006, none have yielded more big-ticket items.

Stuff the School Bus is a month-long donation drive that provides new school supplies to children of low-income families through contributions made at Twin Cities metro area Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores. This year the program collected 100 more calculators and 220 more backpacks than last year.

“Being able to assist families with higher priced supplies is a great blessing to them,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “A big thank you goes out to KS95’s staff and listeners, as well as members of the general public who gave to this important cause.”

Stuff the School Bus was held July 8 – Sept. 2. The event raised more than 14,500 school supplies during its weekend kick-off, and another 30,000 supplies through collection bins at 30 Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores. These items were distributed to more than 800 children.

The event was presented by KS95, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, and was sponsored by 5 Eyewitness News, Diet Pepsi, First Student Transportation, Jennie-O Turkey Store®, M&I Bank, Malt-O-Meal®, Post-it® and Wet Ones®.
