PRESS RELEASE
The Salvation Army Teaching Others
How to Successfully Rent a Home
ROSEVILLE – January 12, 2010 – The Salvation Army is hosting a training program for its social services staff that will teach them the particulars of successfully renting a house or home, information they will pass on to the thousands of people they serve.
More than 30 social services staff from The Salvation Army and other local nonprofits are scheduled to attend the training on Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at The Salvation Army headquarters in Roseville, located at 2445 Prior Ave. N.
The class will be taught by Dr. Marilyn Bruin of the University of Minnesota. Her course will include information on how to work with landlords, how to care for a rental property and more. In some cases, renters have used the information taught in the course to have their rent reduced or their security deposit waved.
“The Salvation Army is committed to giving others the tools they need to secure housing during these uncertain times,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “This course represents one of many ways The Salvation Army is addressing the problems faced by the people we serve.”
The Salvation Army provides shelter to 850 people a night through its emergency and transitional housing programs. It also provides rent and utility assistance through its many Twin Cities operation centers.
