PRESS RELEASE

President Bush Thanks Salvation Army
While Surveying Tornado Damage

February 11, 2008 –President George W. Bush thanked Salvation Army emergency disaster services (EDS) personnel and volunteers for their efforts to bring comfort and relief to survivors during his recent tour of the tornado-ravaged south. For nearly a week The Salvation Army has been providing relief to thousands of people impacted by the storms that killed at least 58 people and left devastation across five states.

During his stop in Tennessee President Bush visited one of The Salvation Army’s feeding sites in Macon County. He visited with Captain Ed Binnix, a Salvation Army officer (minister) taking part in the relief effort. Captain Binnix reported that The Salvation Army currently has two sites in Macon County next to the fire and rescue units.

In the wake of these storms The Salvation Army is providing multiple services to residents and emergency responders including meal support, emotional and spiritual care, and social service assistance. EDS teams in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee also are ready to aid in the clean-up effort.

The Salvation Army serves in more than 100 countries and provides both immediate emergency assistance and long-term recovery help in the event of any disaster.
