Energy Awareness Expo Feb. 25 in NE Minneapolis

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – February 23, 2010 – Many low-income families are paying too much for their monthly utility bills. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

The Salvation Army and its partners will explain why during the 2010 Energy Awareness Expo, being held Feb. 25 from 3 p.m.–7 p.m. at the Northeast Minneapolis Salvation Army, 2727 Central Ave NE.

The event will feature free energy-saving products (while supplies last) and a host of displays, information and products from local utility and weatherization agencies. Free refreshments will be provided.  

All are welcome to come and learn about energy saving ideas and materials that help homes stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Sponsors include Xcel Energy, CenterPoint Energy and Minnesota Community Action Partnership.

“Through this important event we will give low-income households the resources and knowledge they need to lower their energy burdens and increase their economic solvency,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army.

The Twin Cities Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people a year through its 25 local centers of operation. Daily it serves 2,000 hot meals and shelters 850 people. More than 14,000 local volunteers help The Salvation Army provide a multitude of services, from child daycare to senior housing.
