PRESS RELEASE
Salvation Army Food Shelves are State's Best
March 7, 2008 –All of The Salvation Army’s five Twin Cities metro area food pantries are among Minnesota’s most innovative and productive food shelves.
So says Hunger Solutions Minnesota (HSM), a hunger advocacy program that has recognized 28 state food shelves as the best of the best through its 2008-2009 Blue Ribbon Food Shelf Initiative.
The initiative is an evaluative tool that gives recognition to outstanding food shelves, a status that HSM says “is not easily attainable.”
HSM evaluated the food shelves on aspects such as financial management, administration, use of volunteers, strategic planning and board involvement.
Receiving the recognition, HMS says, “means that when donations are given, the community can: trust that their donation is being used effectively and efficiently; and also be confident that when someone uses the food shelf, they are being treated with dignity and respect.”
The five recognized Salvation Army food shelves include three in Minneapolis and two in St. Paul.
"The Salvation Army prides itself in using donations creatively, efficiently and effectively,” said Major Paul Fleeman, Commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “We are proud that Hunger Solutions Minnesota has recognized us through its Blue Ribbon Food Shelf Initiative.”
