PRESS RELEASE
The Salvation Army Leaving Stillwater,
Coming to St. Mary’s Point
March 18, 2011 – With a sufficient number of sandbags filled, today is the last day The Salvation Army will provide meal services to sandbaggers in Stillwater, Minn. Salvation Army disaster volunteers have provided nearly 1,000 meals to hard-working city staff and volunteers during their operation on the shores of the St Croix River.
On Saturday, Salvation Army disaster volunteers will move south to nearby St. Mary's Point. City officials have asked The Salvation Army to prepare meals for volunteers as they fill 5,000 sandbags.
The Salvation Army Northern Division is on alert to provide flood response services anywhere in Minnesota and North Dakota. After serving more than 11,000 sandbaggers in Fargo, N.D., disaster teams recently moved their operation to the Minnesota side of the Red River to assist the city of Moorhead with its flood fight.
Throughout Minnesota, Salvation Army trucks have dropped off supplies in preparation for any flood related needs including bottled water, food and clean-up kits. In addition, The Salvation Army is raising funds to provide financial assistance for households who may experience property damage if the waters are not held back.
The Salvation Army serves in more than 100 countries and provides both immediate emergency assistance and long-term recovery help in the event of any disaster. Funds for The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services come from corporate and private donations given specifically for disaster relief.
