PRESS RELEASE
Volunteers Needed at New Winona Thrift Store
WINONA, Minn. – March 30, 2009 – The Salvation Army has opened the doors to a new thrift store in Winona, located at 1443 W Service Dr. Donations have been streaming in for over a month, and on Friday, March 27 the doors swung wide open for sales. Nearly 1,000 customers made purchases on the first weekend (Friday-Saturday).
“We have been very pleased with the initial support for the new store,” said Major Jim Frye, Administrator of the Rochester Salvation Army, which helped launch the new store. “Donations keep coming in and shoppers keep moving through the store. Now we just need to find more volunteers to keep the shelves stocked.”
Volunteers from area churches, schools, youth programs, and more have already given hundreds of service hours to this new venture. Projects have included painting the entire store, building fitting rooms, sorting donations, and stocking the book department.
Individual volunteers and groups (4-8 people) are welcome to serve for an hour or an entire day. Interested volunteers can simply stop in the store, pick up an application, and get started. Groups can call either Bob or Brad at 507-474-2400 to set up special service times. Store and Donation Hours are as follows: 9A-6P Monday – Friday; 9A-5P Saturday; Closed Sunday.
PLEASE NOTE: A special ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration is in the works for Saturday, April, 18th, starting at 8:45AM and continuing throughout the day. Come out and enjoy some special sales, as well as food and refreshments.
All proceeds from thrift store sales always help people most in need.
