Popular national band Honor Society holding
‘Pillow Fight for Homelessness’ April 13 at Varsity Theater
New or gently used pillows accepted before show 3:30 p.m.–7 p.m.
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – April 12, 2010 – Honor Society, one of the nation’s newest and most popular rock bands, will collect pillows for the homeless before their April 13 concert at Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. Band members will also prepare rooms for the homeless at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Shelter in Minneapolis. Check out photos of Honor Society at Harbor Light.
Concertgoers and the general public are invited to donate new or gently used bed pillows at Varsity Theater, 1308 Southeast 4th Street, from 3:30 p.m.–7 p.m. Donated pillows will be given to men and women in shelters operated by the Twin Cities Salvation Army, which houses 850 people every night.
“Lately we have experienced an increased need for pillows at our shelters – we do not have enough, and the ones we do have are becoming worn out,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “We are thankful for Honor Society’s willingness to use their star power to help people in need.”
Honor Society released its latest album “Fashionably Late” in September, debuting at #18 on the Billboard 200. The band was an opening act for the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009.
The pillow drive is part of Honor Society’s ongoing effort to support Salvation Army programs at each stop of their national tour.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people a year through its 25 local centers of operation. Daily it serves 2,000 hot meals and shelters 850 people. More than 14,000 local volunteers help The Salvation Army provide a multitude of services, from child daycare to senior housing.
