PRESS RELEASE
Join The Salvation Army During National Volunteer Week
April 25, 2008 – Have you ever wanted to volunteer, but haven’t known where to start?
Wonder no more. April 27 – May 3 is National Volunteer Week, when people from across the country will join together to strengthen communities through volunteerism.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army is urging able bodies to join in. We offer plenty of volunteer activities, everything from youth outreach to preparing and serving meals for the elderly and homeless.
“We all have special gifts,” said Mitch Brecto of Brooklyn Park, a Salvation Army volunteer who donates hundreds of hours a year to youth outreach. “It is our duty to share them with others.”
Major Paul Fleeman, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army, said he is grateful for the 18,000 people who volunteered 75,000 hours of service the Twin Cities Salvation Army last year.
“The best things in life are free, and volunteering is no exception,” Major Fleeman said. “Helping change the lives of others gives volunteers a sense of purpose and satisfaction that cannot be described.”
