The Salvation Army Offering Support at Police Officer Funeral, National Day of Prayer

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – May4, 2010 – Ten Salvation Army staff and volunteers will provide support at two events in St. Paul on May 6: the National Day of Prayer and the funeral of fallen St. Paul police officer Sgt. Joseph Bergeron.

At the State Capitol, The Salvation Army will provide refreshments at the National Day of Prayer from 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Salvation Army music staff will also lead a city-wide worship team.

At the St. Paul Cathedral, The Salvation Army will provide refreshments from 8 a.m.–11 a.m. at the funeral of Sgt. Bergeron, a 49-year-old police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday morning. A Salvation Army team served food and beverages to emergency workers at the scene of the shooting.

Salvation Army Disaster Services teams consistently serve police officers, firefighters and other emergency workers in times of disaster, providing food, beverages and spiritual support.
