at Disaster Response Fair
Rice Creek Community Disaster Preparedness Fair being held May 21

SHOREVIEW, Minn. – To increase public awareness about disaster response, The Salvation Army is teaming up with 19 disaster response organizations (listed at bottom) and Wells Fargo & Co. for the Rice Creek Community Disaster Preparedness Fair.

The free event is open to the public and will be held May 21 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. outside of the Shoreview Wells Fargo, 1801 Park View Drive. (Rain date: May 22, same time and place.)

The Salvation Army will serve free hot dogs and refreshments. Also provided will be free education about The Salvation Army’s many disaster service programs, which last year assisted nearly 27,000 disaster survivors and relief workers in Minnesota and North Dakota through meals, emotional and spiritual care, long-term social services and more.

From drug- and bomb-sniffing dogs to a police helicopter, the event will feature plenty of original sights and activities from local, state and national organizations.

“We’re excited to take part in helping team members and people in our community do as much as possible to prepare for natural disasters,” said Wells Fargo Operations Manager Mike Benjamin.

Shoreview Mayor Sandy Martin underscored the importance of the event.

“Having experienced the devastating effects of a tornado in Shoreview 10 years ago, it is important that we be prepared for any future emergency situation,” Martin said. “We are very please that Wells Fargo is sponsoring a Disaster Preparedness Fair for the Rice Creek Community.”
