PRESS RELEASE
The Salvation Army Responds to Florida Wildfires
May 15, 2008 –The Salvation Army is responding to a brush fire that has scorched nearly 4,000 acres in Florida’s Brevard County. More than 200 firefighters and rescue workers have been fed by The Salvation Army and nearly the same amount of meals have been served in Daytona Beach to firefighters and rescue personnel fighting the Volusia County fires.
“We’re feeding the firefighters and rescue workers because we want to let them know how much we appreciate what they’re doing for the community,” said Major Tim Williford, in charge of The Salvation Army’s work in Melbourne, Fla.
Last year, Salvation Army emergency disaster services crews fed and hydrated hundreds of firefighters and rescue personnel all over Florida during the wildfires that scorched thousands of acres all over the state.
