Food Shelf Cupboards Bare at Jamestown Salvation Army
Food, monetary donations needed immediately

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – July 27, 2011 – For the first time in nearly six years, the food shelf cupboards are bare at the Jamestown Salvation Army.

“We’re almost completely empty,” said Lt. Mitch Brecto, Jamestown Salvation Army administrator. “Due to a decrease in food drives and individual donations, we are unable to adequately provide for the families depending on us.”

The food shelf serves an average of 264 men, women and children per month, or about 3,200 people per year.

In addition to nonperishable food items, the food shelf needs hygiene products, baby supplies, cleaning products, toilet paper and other common household supplies.

“We are humbly asking Jamestown residents to give what food or money they can to help us serve local families in need,” Brecto said. “Anything will help.”

To donate, stop by the Jamestown Salvation Army at 320 1st Ave. N.
