Reality TV in Minneapolis?
Closest Thing is MOST Amazing Race on July 21

July 20, 2007 Minneapolis, Minn. – Thirty-four contestants will race through Minneapolis on Saturday, July 21 for The Salvation Army’s MOST Amazing Race, a fundraising event patterned after the popular reality television show.

This official Minneapolis Aquatennial event begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Minnehaha Academy South Campus football field, located at 4200 West River Parkway in Minneapolis. Seventeen teams of two will compete for $5,000, courtesy of Wells Fargo, by completing mental and physical challenges at well known locations throughout the city. Contestants will travel to each challenge by foot or by using Metro Transit.

The race ends at the KOOL 108 RiverBlast event, located at West River Parkway and Portland Ave. along the Mississippi River. Finish line festivities begin at 5 p.m.

Race teams have so far raised more than $26,000 for The Salvation Army Bed and Bread Club, which helps alleviate hunger and homelessness in the Twin Cities. But the dollar amount is well short of the overall race goal of $55,000. Donations can still be made by visiting thesalarmy.org/race07.

The “Race Blog” link on the website includes a chance for anybody 18 or older to win two Icelandair round trip airline tickets, given away at 7 p.m. on July 21.

The MOST Amazing Race is sponsored by Wells Fargo, KOOL 108 FM, OfficeMax, Icelandair, Minnesota Thunder, RE/MAX, Metro Transit and Minnehaha Academy.
