Salvation Army Raises Nearly $40,000
for Survivors of Bridge Collapse

MINNEAPOLIS – August 8, 2007 The Twin Cities Salvation Army has so far raised nearly $40,000 for people directly affected by the I-35W bridge collapse.

The assistance will cover funeral expenses, medical bills and other unexpected costs experienced by individuals and families affected by the Aug. 1 tragedy. The State of Minnesota requested the assistance last week.

The largest donation came from Target Corp., which gave $25,000. Another $7,000 was raised through mailed donations and online at thesalarmy.org. Volunteer bell ringers raised $5,600 last weekend at the Uptown Art Fair.

The money is available to individuals referred to The Salvation Army by the Twin Cities Red Cross. Individuals can determine their eligibility by calling the Red Cross at 612-871-7676 or by visiting www.redcrosstc.org.

In addition to financial assistance, The Salvation Army is providing breakfast to recovery workers through a mobile service unit (canteen) located near the disaster site at the Stone Arch Bridge.

The Salvation Army is also helping with meal service at the Red Cross Family Assistance Center, located at Augsburg College. The center provides meals and emotional support to survivors and families waiting to hear about their loved ones.

Additional donations can be made by clicking here or by mailing a check marked “bridge disaster” to 2445 Prior Ave, Roseville, MN 55113.
