The Salvation Army is using more than $10,000 to give back-to-school clothes to 52 children who were impacted by the I-35W bridge when it collapsed Aug. 1. The children were on board a bus from Waite House, an outreach center in the low-income Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis.
More than 50 store employees will assist the children as “shopping buddies.” Each child will receive a $200 Target gift card donated by The Salvation Army.
“Providing new clothes for these brave kids is a small act of compassion that can go a long way in helping them overcome the trauma they experienced,” said Major Daniel Sjögren, Salvation Army Divisional Commander.
The Salvation Army has so far raised more than $56,000 for people directly affected by the bridge collapse.
