PRESS RELEASE
The Salvation Army Begins Long-Term
Flood Relief in Southeastern MN
CBS Radio-Minneapolis to hold live fundraiser Sept. 28, 5 a.m. – 8 a.m.
ROSEVILLE, MN – September 27, 2007 – The Salvation Army has initiated long-term recovery services for flood survivors in southeastern Minnesota. The four-month effort is expected to cost $1 million.
Salvation Army caseworkers are serving six Minnesota counties, with offices in Winona, Rushford, Rochester and Owatonna. (See addresses at bottom.)
Along with providing financial assistance, caseworkers help survivors answer questions such as: Should I rebuild or relocate? What resources do I have? What are my goals, and how long will they take to accomplish?
“The most important thing caseworkers do is help flood survivors understand their resources, everything from government assistance to insurance claims,” said Major Dan Sjögren, Salvation Army Divisional Commander. “Caseworkers also provide Salvation Army financial assistance for utility bills, insurance deductibles, building supplies and much more.”
On Friday, Sept. 28, CBS Radio-Minneapolis – consisting of WCCO-AM, 102.9 Lite FM and 104.1 Jack-FM – will hold a fundraiser from 5 a.m. – 8 a.m. The simulcast will be broadcast live from the Rushford-Peterson Elementary School in Rushford. CBS radio announcers will encourage listeners to donate money to The Salvation Army to help flood survivors.
Other businesses are supporting Salvation Army flood relief, including $100,000 from Mayo Clinic, a $10,000 supply trailer from Freddie Mac and truckloads of supplies from 3M. In addition, The Salvation Army last week received a $500,000 grant.
