HeatShare Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Donations Accepted in Utility Bill Inserts All Month Long

TWIN CITIES, Minn. – November 7, 2007 The Minnesota cold has officially arrived, signaling a long and grueling winter ahead for individuals and families without enough money to heat their homes.

The Salvation Army is helping these people through its HeatShare program, which this year is celebrating 25 years of providing emergency heating assistance to Minnesotans. HeatShare has raised $26 million and served more than 66,000 households since beginning in 1982.

HeatShare is now accepting donations that will warm homes and hearts. Donation inserts for the program are included in November utility bills from these and other energy companies: CenterPoint Energy, Minnesota Energy Resources, Xcel Energy, Minnesota Power and Minnesota Municipal Utilities.

The Salvation Army is encouraging the public to give generously.

“The demand for HeatShare funds will be high this winter because of higher energy costs and limited public resources,” said Mike McGlone, HeatShare Director for the Salvation Army Northern Division. “The sad reality is that many, many families will go without heat this winter. But HeatShare can help.”

Contributions to HeatShare are tax deductible and are used exclusively for assistance. Corporate gifts and The Salvation Army cover administrative costs.

Individuals or families needing HeatShare assistance can call 800-842-7279. Click here for more information.

HeatShare is a voluntary, non-governmental program of The Salvation Army. HeatShare contributions are also used to provide budget and family counseling to needy families.

In addition to utility bill inserts, HeatShare donations can be made by mailing a check to The Salvation Army at 2445 Prior Ave. N., Roseville, MN 55113, or by clicking below.
