PRESS RELEASE
Canterbury Park Employees Deal Thanksgiving Goodness
SHAKOPEE, Minn. – November 14, 2007 — It appears that Canterbury Park Holding Corp. has a new Thanksgiving tradition: feeding the less fortunate.
For the second year in a row, the popular gaming facility has agreed to fund and supply volunteers for The Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving food basket program in Scott County.
At 1 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 16, Canterbury Park employees will pack 100 Thanksgiving food baskets for seniors and low income families living in Scott County. The employees will distribute the baskets at Canterbury Park on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Canterbury volunteers will range from card dealers to janitors to Canterbury President Randy Sampson. They’ll pack baskets with potatoes, stuffing and more, plus a $20 meat voucher.
Canterbury funded the food baskets through the Canterbury Park Minnesota Fund, a charity program it founded in 2003. The Radermacher’s Super Valu grocery store in Jordan sold the food at a discount. CAP Agency, a social services provider, offered additional food.
The Salvation Army serves over 200,000 people in the Twin Cities, and is a safety net for those with no place to turn. The Salvation Army serves 1,100 hot meals each day, houses more than 700 people each night and is the largest provider of Christmas toys in the metro area.
