PRESS RELEASE
World's Largest Salvation Army Heads to Willmar Nov. 17
WILLMAR, Minn. – November 16, 2007 – The world’s largest Salvation Army Red Kettle will be at the Kandi Mall on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. as part of the mall’s “Spruce Up a Life” campaign. It will also be a part of the 2007 Holidaze Parade later that evening.
“Big SAL” is more than 8 feet tall and 8 feet wide. The colossal kettle weighs about 2,300 pounds and can hold approximately $230,000 in donations.
Traditional Salvation Army kettles will accompany Big SAL at Kandi Mall for Spruce Up a Life, a donation drive in which community members sponsor a Christmas tree and donate food and gifts to less fortunate families. Refreshments will be served from a Salvation Army disaster services vehicle.
Big SAL will make an encore appearance later in the day during the Holidaze Parade, when it will be pulled through downtown Willmar by a Salvation Army vehicle.
All Big SAL kettle contributions will provide needy residents of Kandiyohi County with emergency food, shelter, clothing and other assistance, as well as benefit The Salvation Army’s child programs.
Last year The Salvation Army of Willmar served more than 9,000 residents of Kandiyohi County.
Since 1886, The Salvation Army Northern Division has been providing social and spiritual services to Minnesota and North Dakota communities with a mission to give people purpose, hearts hope and souls redemption.
