PRESS RELEASE

Red Kettle, Online Donations will be Triple Matched Saturday
Additional $100 donation incentive offered all week long

November 30, 2007--Of all the days people can give to red kettles this Christmas season, The Salvation Army is pleading Twin Cities metro area residents to donate on Saturday, Dec. 1.

All Twin Cities kettle donations made that day will be triple matched by an anonymous donor who has contributed up to $250,000 in matching funds. A $10 donation, for example, would be worth $40 because of $30 in matching funds.

A triple match will also be applied to online donations made by clicking here.

“Considering the forecast calls for lots of snow, we want to make it easy for people to take advantage of this important day by donating from the warmth of their homes,” said Major Paul Fleeman, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army.

Internet donations are tax deductible and can be made through Salvation Army “e-Kettles” — online versions of red kettles that can be personalized and e-mailed to friends and family.

To grow e-Kettle participation, the anonymous donor will give The Salvation Army $100 for every new e-Kettle created between Dec. 1 – 8. Click here to create your own e-Kettle.

The matching funds couldn’t have come at a better time. Overall Christmas campaign donations are at $1.7 million, a near $100,000 decrease from last year.

“If we get enough public support on Saturday, we can fill this $100,000 shortfall and get back on track for the remaining 26 days of our Christmas campaign,” Fleeman said. “The less fortunate individuals and families we serve are depending on us.”

The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn. We serve 1,100 hot meals every day and house more than 700 people every night. Donations can be made by mailing a check to 2445 Prior Ave, Roseville, MN 55113 or by clicking below.
