MN Wild Matches Donations to Kettles at Dec. 20 Game
St. Paul firefighters start bell ringing at 5 p.m.
ST. PAUL, Minn. – December 18, 2007 – The Minnesota Wild will match up to $5,000 in donations made to Salvation Army red kettles at Xcel Energy Center before the Wild’s Dec. 20 game vs. the New York Rangers.
St. Paul firefighters will bell ring from 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at red kettles posted around the center.
“The Salvation Army is thrilled that the Wild is supporting our Christmas fund-raising campaign,” said Major Paul Fleeman, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “The Wild’s generosity gives hockey fans the perfect opportunity to double their donation to one of the most vital charities in the Twin Cities.”
The match couldn’t come at a better time for The Salvation Army, which is experiencing an unexpected and record increase of families needing Christmas assistance.
The match is funded through the MSE Community Giving Fund of Minnesota Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the Wild.
We have supported the Salvation Army since 1998,” said Bill Robertson, Vice President of Communications and Broadcasting of the Minnesota Wild. “This partnership is important to us as we work together with our fans to raise additional dollars for this worthwhile cause.”
The Salvation Army also thanks St. Paul firefighters.
“Considering firefighters typically raise three times more money per hour at kettles than anyone else, the efforts of St. Paul firefighters is especially appreciated during this fantastic match opportunity,” Fleeman added.
The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn.
