PRESS RELEASE

Mpls. Firefighters Give The Salvation Army "The Boot"
"Buck the Boot” fund-raiser at Nicollet Mall helps Christmas campaign

Who: The Salvation Army, Minneapolis Firefighters, Starbucks Coffee Co.
What: “Buck the Boot” features Minneapolis firefighters who bell ring for The Salvation Army and collect donations using yellow and black boots.
Where: Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis
When: Thursday, Dec. 20, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Dozens of Minneapolis firefighters will convene downtown at Nicollet Mall to bell ring for The Salvation Army. Instead of red kettles, the firefighters will collect donations in yellow and black firefighter boots.

Firefighters typically raise three times more money per hour at Salvation Army kettles than any other volunteer group.

The firefighters’ support is desperately needed this year because The Salvation Army has experienced an unexpected and drastic increase in families needing Christmas assistance: Last year The Salvation Army served 8,500 families, while this year more than 14,200 are registered.

The firefighters will stay warm during their bell ringing shifts with an unending supply of coffee donated by Starbucks Coffee Co.

The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn. We serve 1,100 hot meals every day and house more than 700 people every night. Donations can be made by mailing a check to 2445 Prior Ave, Roseville, MN 55113 or by clicking below.
