Donations Needed to Support
Extension of Mobile Food Services in Minot

Up to 2,000 meals a day requested through Aug. 31

MINOT, N.D. – August 12, 2011 Having already dipped into its financial reserves, the Minot Salvation Army is extending its mobile food services through Aug. 31 at the request of local Emergency Operation Center officials. Starting Tuesday, The Salvation Army will also begin providing lunch and dinner for approximately 100 Minot residents staying at the local flood shelter.

“While we are happy to expand our food services even further, more donations would be an incredible help – demand for our services has far outpaced the amount of money we have received,” said Major Donald Kincaid, Minot Salvation Army administrator.

Dozens of volunteers aboard six Salvation Army mobile kitchens continue to serve about 2,000 lunches and dinners to Minot residents and relief workers, seven days a week.  Since June 22, The Salvation Army has served 46,000 meals, 74,000 drinks and 46,000 snacks.

Volunteers remain in high demand. One night last week, only one mobile kitchen was deployed due to lack of food service volunteers. An extra dozen volunteers are needed this Sunday alone. To volunteer in Minot, call 701-509-6992 or visit www.thesalarmy.org/minot.
