Illinois Master Chef Swoops in to Serve Ethnic Feast
Chef Jason Wheeler prepares cultural fare for diverse diners at
Salvation Army service center
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – August 21, 2009 – In celebration of cultural heritage at the Minneapolis Salvation Army at 2727
Central Ave, Chef Jason Wheeler will meld together taste sensations from Laotian and Swedish cultures to celebrate the centers diverse heritage. The event is Sunday, August 23 at 5:30 p.m.
The Salvation Army began in the Twin Cities with a strong contingent of Swedish immigrants, since then its members have grown to reflect the tapestry of cultures that help the metro area compete with such diverse cities as New York.
Wheeler, executive chef of the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford, IL is a ardent supporter of Salvation Army ministries. He has sponsored many programs in his home state and now is branching out to assist the Minnesota chapter. Wheeler is providing his service for free and also bringing along a family member to provide entertainment for the more than 120 guest expected on Sunday at 5:30 pm. His daughter Chamara Rose will be singing for the group.
In addition to the diverse cuisine, guest will be dressing in native clothing to add visual brilliance and enhance the celebration of heritage. While there is a cost for the meal, The Salvation Army provided free tickets to those guests with financial struggles.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army has 26 operation centers and serves more than 200,000 people in crisis each year. Daily it serves 2,100 hot meals and houses 850 people a night. More than 14,000 local volunteers lend a hand to offer hope through Salvation Army services from child daycare to senior housing.
