PRESS RELEASE
Salvation Army Meal Service for Flood Survivors and Cleanup Crews Could Screech to a Halt without Volunteers
MINOT, N.D. – August 25, 2011 – Six Salvation Army mobile kitchens canvass Minot neighborhoods bringing much needed cold water and a nutritious meal to hard working residents as they cleanup what the Souris River left behind. At a rate of 2,000 meals a day, the Army has already dished out 68,000 meals. But that important service is threatened because of lack of volunteers to drive the meal trucks and hand out the cuisine.
"As of today we only have enough volunteers to handle two meal trucks this Friday," said Major Donald Kincaid, Minot Salvation Army commander. "That would mean hundreds of households would not get meal support over the weekend. Our neighbors have had enough disappointment, we don't want to let them down. We desperately need help!"
The Salvation Army is looking for 12 drivers each day and 24 support workers who prepare and serve meals aboard the mobile kitchens.
Along with the 68,000 meals, each valued at $4, The Salvation Army have provided $534,000 in financial assistance to flood survivors and an additional $82,000 in cleaning supplies.
