ROSEVILLE, Minn. – September 11 – In its ongoing efforts to appeal to a wider audience, The Salvation Army has sponsored a major financial planning seminar at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

More than 1,000 bankers, attorneys, CPAs and others interested in protecting the financial future of their clients, family, business and community have registered to attend “Coping with Change – Like it or Not” on Monday, Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

The free financial planning event will include lectures about the changes coming in 2010 in the areas of tax law, Roth IRA conversions and other issues related to estate planning and charitable giving. The seminar will be broadcast live to 90 locations throughout the country.

“In a time when charities need to stand out to get recognized, The Salvation Army is working hard to increase our appeal to givers,” said Major Darryl Leedom, Commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “This is just one way we are creatively working to expand our audience and increase giving.”

The Salvation Army receives the majority of its support from individual donors. Many of these donors create estate plans, wills and annuities that benefit The Salvation Army.

The seminar will be hosted by Roy M. Adams and Christopher Hoyt. Adams is managing partner of Adams & Matz LLP, a law firm specializing in trusts, estates and litigation. Hoyt is a Professor of Law at the University of Missouri (Kansas City) School of Law, where he teaches courses in business and in federal income taxation.

Additional sponsors include Securian Trust Co., Bremer Bank, Mayo Clinic and Alerus Financial. No solicitations will be made by any of the sponsors.
