The Salvation Army Receives Award from Lt. Governor for Recovery Program Partnered with McDonald’s
Carol Molnau will honor The Salvation Army Oct. 2 at the Minnesota Veterans Outreach Forum in Rosemount

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – Lt. Governor Carol Malnau will present The Salvation Army with a 2008 Governor’s Council on Faith and Community Service Initiatives Best Practices Award on Oct. 2 at the Minnesota Veterans Outreach Forum, being held 8 a.m. –  4 p.m. at the Rosemount Community Center, 13885 South Robert Trail.

The award will honor The Salvation Army’s “Golden Opportunity Partnership” program, which provides employment and life skills training for graduates of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Minneapolis.  Golden Opportunity features a partnership with a local McDonald’s franchise owner who in February 2008 agreed to hire four ARC graduates if they committed to working at the restaurant for at least nine months. All four graduates are still working there and have been promoted to management training programs.

Golden Opportunity also includes partnerships with: Mentor Corps, a ministry that provides trained mentors for ARC graduates; Ever Living Hope, a faith-based transitional housing facility; and a silent corporate partner.

The ARC is a free six-month program that provides faith-based residential rehabilitation for hundreds of men struggling with homelessness and addiction. It is funded by Salvation Army thrift stores.

The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn.
