Twins, Vikings Fans Urged to Donate Money for ‘Coats for Kids’ at Upcoming Home Games

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – October 2 – Twins and Vikings fans headed to the Metrodome this weekend and Monday are encouraged to bring a few extra dollars for The Salvation Army’s “Coats for Kids” program.

Kettles will be set up at WCCO Radio’s “Rockin’ Tailgate Jam” at the corner of Park Ave. and 4th Street for several hours before the Twins’ three weekend games, and on Monday before the Vikings game vs. the Green Bay Packers. All donations will be used to buy winter coats for children in need.

Donations of new or gently used coats will be accepted Oct. 5 – 18 at drop-off sites across the Twin Cities, including Kowalski’s Markets, Perkins Restaurant and Bakeries, Cub Foods, 5 Eyewitness News and many other businesses. Coats for Kids is a joint effort between The Salvation Army and 5 Eyewitness News. Since beginning 24 years ago, the program has provided nearly 270,000 coats and winter accessories to children in need. Nearly 6,000 children received coats during last year’s Coats for Kids, and hundreds more were given to adults in Salvation Army shelters. This year the need is expected to be even greater.
