Bismarck, Jamestown Receive Funds for Housing Assistance

November 3, 2009 – The Salvation Army’s operation centers in Jamestown and Bismarck have each received nearly $62,000 in HUD stimulus funds from the North Dakota Department of Commerce to assist area households at risk of homelessness due to the poor economy.

The funds are part of a Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program grant that will be distributed to families in crisis during the next two and a half years. Eligible households can receive assistance with rent, security deposits and other housing needs.

“The Salvation Army is proud to be the vehicle through which these funds will be dispersed,” said Lt. Colonel Daniel Sjögren, commander of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “These dollars will allow us to expand our outreach and help families struggling with housing issues.”

The Salvation Army Northern Division has been serving Minnesota and North Dakota communities since 1886. Today the Northern Division includes operation centers in dozens of cities across both states. These centers provide food, shelter, spiritual enrichment and more to nearly 500,000 people a year.
