PRESS RELEASE

One Hour of Time = $30 in Groceries at 2008 Kettle Kickoff

November 4, 2008 – The 2008 Kettle Kickoff for the Twin Cities Salvation Army will be held all day Nov. 20 at the new Cub Foods store in Eagan, located at 1020 Diffley Road.

The event will feature an unprecedented volunteer opportunity called “40 Hours of Service,” being held to honor Salvation Army volunteers and to celebrate Cub Foods’ 40-year anniversary.

40 Hours of Service begins at 6 a.m. and ends Nov. 20 at 10 p.m., during which time Cargill, CHS, Land O’ Lakes and General Mills will provide a $30 bag of groceries to a family in need for every hour a person commits to bell ringing this holiday season.

KOOL 108 will broadcast Kettle Kickoff live and encourage the community to support 40 Hours of Service by registering to bell ring online.

After a person registers, a Salvation Army volunteer will fill a bag of groceries inside the Eagan Cub Foods. Each bag of groceries will then be loaded onto a truck for delivery to six Salvation Army food shelves.

“Through 40 Hours of Service, the public can feed hurting families without spending a dime,” said Major Darryl Leedom, Commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “All it takes is an hour of bell ringing at any of The Salvation Army’s hundreds of convenient Twin Cities kettle locations.”

Up to 1,300 of the $30 grocery bags will be available, a $40,000 value. The number of grocery bags distributed will be determined by the number of hours people commit to bell ringing.

Kettle Kickoff will also feature a special tent where the public can write personalized holiday cards to families in need. These cards will be placed into each bag of groceries.

In addition, a Kettle Kickoff ceremony featuring Cargill CEO Greg Page will be held at 10 a.m., when dozens of Salvation Army officers will gather kettles to set up at all of Cub Foods’ Twin Cities locations.
