The Salvation Army Now Taking Calls for
Families Needing Holiday Assistance
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – November 5, 2008 – The Twin Cities Salvation Army is now accepting calls from families needing assistance for the 2008 holiday season.
The number to call is 651-746-3595. Operators are standing by every weekday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. From Nov. 17 until Dec. 23, the lines will be open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The phone number is sponsored by Operation Joy, a non-profit group acting as a clearinghouse for The Salvation Army and other local service providers. Last year The Salvation Army provided assistance for 90 percent of the families cleared through Operation Joy.
Families needing assistance can also sign up online at www.thesalarmy.org/opjoy.
“Based on the dramatic increase in need for our food shelves and social services, The Salvation Army is expecting a record year for holiday assistance,” said Major Darryl Leedom, Commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army.
In the past year, Salvation Army food shelf use in the Twin Cities surged nearly 70 percent, while the need for social services jumped 25 percent.
The Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people in the Twin Cities and is a safety net for those with no place to turn.
