The Salvation Army Needs 160 Volunteers to Assemble 1,111 Energy-Saving Kits on 11-11-11

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – November 8, 2011 The Twin Cities Salvation Army needs volunteers to assemble 1,111 energy-saving kits on Nov. 11 at the Christian Community Fair in Minneapolis. Forty volunteers are needed for 75 minutes at the beginning of every hour from 4–8 p.m., for a total of 160 volunteers. Volunteers may sign up for more than one shift.

Each energy-saving kit includes a reusable tote bag, door draft-stopper, window weatherization kit, water heater temperature gauge, coupon for energy-saving showerheads and faucet aerators. The kits will be distributed at local Salvation Army food shelves in November.

The door draft-stopper, which will be assembled by the volunteers on Friday, is a craft project that is perfect for the whole family. To learn more or sign up, click here or call 651-746-3427.

The program is a partnership between The Salvation Army and CenterPoint Energy.

“The Salvation Army helps families in crisis pay their heating bills through our HeatShare program,” said Major Jeff Strickler, Twin Cities Salvation Army Commander. “It makes sense that we also help them to conserve on energy as much as possible. And who better to help us with this project than CenterPoint Energy, who not only makes significant financial contributions to our HeatShare fund but also asks their customers to do the same.”

“We are pleased to be able to provide over 1,100 energy saving gift bags that will help customers lower their gas bills and provide them with important energy assistance information,” said Jean Krause, CenterPoint Energy Director of Community Relations.

The Christian Community Fair will be held Nov. 11–12 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. For more information, visit the Christian Community Fair website.
