The Salvation Army Offering Free Coats, Feasts and
Phone Calls on Thanksgiving Day
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – November 19, 2010 – The Salvation Army Harbor Light Shelter in Minneapolis and the West 7th Salvation Army in St. Paul will offer free Thanksgiving meals and free long-distance phone calls on Thanksgiving Day. In addition, Harbor Light will distribute coats to people in need. All of these events and services are open to the public. Detailed descriptions are below.
Harbor Light Shelter, 1010 Currie Ave., Minneapolis
8:30–10:30 a.m.: Hundreds of adult- and child-sized coats will be given away while supplies last. The coats were gathered during The Salvation Army’s October “Coats for Kids” drive and at the Vikings/Packers game on Nov. 21.
10:30 a.m.–noon: Church service.
Noon–3 p.m.: Thanksgiving meal, with up to 1,000 people expected to attend.
All day: Free long-distance calls to anywhere in the world. This service is made possible through POPPcom’s “Phone Home” program.
St. Paul Citadel, 401 West 7th St., St. Paul
11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Thanksgiving meal, with up to 500 people expected to attend.
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.: Free long-distance calls to anywhere in the world through POPPcom’s “Phone Home” program.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people a year through its 25 local centers of operation. Daily it serves 2,000 hot meals and shelters 850 people. More than 14,000 local volunteers help The Salvation Army provide a multitude of services, from child daycare to senior housing.
