PRESS RELEASE

10,000 Book Donations Needed

December 1, 2009 – The Salvation Army is looking for 10,000 new Christian-themed books for families registered to receive Christmas assistance this year. The books, along with toys and grocery gift cards, will be handed out at Salvation Army Toy Shops in the Twin Cities metro area beginning Dec. 17.

“We are looking for books that tell the true meaning of Christmas, or have a Christmas theme with an evangelical message,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “We bought some of the books we need, but it’s not nearly enough. We have been providing books at Toy Shop for many years and would like to continue the tradition.”

Donations of new books are being accepted until Dec. 17 at Twin Cities metro area Northwestern Book Stores.

The books can also be placed inside toy collection bins at metro area Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores.

The Salvation Army thanks 98.5 KTIS radio for promoting the book drive to its listeners.

The Salvation Army is expecting to serve up to 12,000 families at its Toy Shops in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Burnsville and Roseville.
