Globe University Holding Gigantic
Bell Ringing Competition Dec. 8
December 7, 2009 – Hundreds of students and faculty from Globe University/Minnesota School of Business will hold a bell ringing competition Dec. 8 to see which of the university’s locations across the Midwest can raise the most money for The Salvation Army.
The competition will run from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Participating bell ringers will staff kettles at all of the university’s campuses – 12 in Minnesota, four in Wisconsin and one in South Dakota. Online students will participate using a Salvation Army “Online Red Kettle.”
The Woodbury, Minn.-based university will match the total dollar amount raised by the winning kettle.
“We deeply appreciate Globe University/Minnesota School of Business for including The Salvation Army in its ongoing charitable efforts,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army.
“We are excited about this event and the impact we can have on the mission of The Salvation Army, as well as the learning opportunity it offers to our students about working together to help others in our communities,” said Kaye Myhre, Vice President of the Globe Education Network.

The Salvation Army offers Christmas assistance to about 14,000 Twin Cities families in need, providing toys, meals and other services. Bell ringers typically raise about $3 million for the Twin Cities Salvation Army every Christmas season.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army serves more than 200,000 people a year through its 25 local centers of operation. Daily it serves 2,000 hot meals and shelters 850 people. More than 14,000 local volunteers help The Salvation Army provide a multitude of services, from child daycare to senior housing.
