PRESS RELEASE
Mankato Salvation Army Auctioning
Home Donated by Retired Teacher
Online auction starts today at www.k-bid.com
December 15, 2009 – MANKATO, Minn. – The Salvation Army is used to receiving big-ticket in-kind donations such as cars or land. A donated home, on the other hand, doesn’t happen very often.
Yet that’s exactly what Mankato resident Virginia Christian, 86, has given The Salvation Army. The retired Minnesota State University-Mankato math teacher recently handed over the keys to her trailer home, located at Camelot Park in North Mankato, before moving into a senior housing facility. She had lived in the home since 1983.
The home will be up for auction Dec. 14–29 through the website www.k-bid.com, which has provided its auctioning services free of charge.
All proceeds from the sale of the home will benefit the Mankato Salvation Army.
“We are so thankful to Virginia for her donation, and to k-bid.com for their generosity,” said Captain Cynthia Parker of the Mankato Salvation Army. “The money we raise through the sale of this home will provide food, shelter and other critical needs to our community members in need.”
The Salvation Army Northern Division has been serving Minnesota and North Dakota communities since 1886. Today the Northern Division includes operation centers in dozens of cities across both states. These centers provide food, shelter, spiritual enrichment and more to nearly 500,000 people a year.
