Toy Shop Begins Dec. 17 for Record 14,400 Families
Unclear whether supply will meet demand

December 16, 2009 – ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Tomorrow a record 14,400 families registered for Christmas assistance from The Salvation Army will begin receiving new toys and grocery gift cards at Salvation Army Toy Shops in the Twin Cities metro area.

“At this point it is unclear whether we will have enough toys to meet this unprecedented demand,” said Major Darryl Leedom, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army.

The Twin Cities community is encouraged to help offset the potential toy shortage by donating new, unwrapped toys at metro area Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores, your local Salvation Army, Toys for Tots drop-off locations or online by clicking here.

Target Corp. has helped The Salvation Army meet the challenge by donating $65,000 worth of toys and Target gift cards.

“Target’s generous contribution could not have come at a better time,” Leedom said.

Salvation Army Toy Shops will be held Dec. 17–19 and Dec. 21 at National Guard Armories in Minneapolis and St. Paul; Dec. 22 at Crossroads Church in Burnsville; and Dec. 23 at The Salvation Army headquarters in Roseville.
